The Mercer University Bear Bikes program was introduced in 2006 and was a huge success on campus, initially headed by Allan Rene de Cotret and Students for Environmental Action. In 2008, the program ceased operations due to a shortage in volunteers, leadership, and financial support, but was revived in 2010 through Mercer Cycling and The Bike Store in Mercer Village.
For the Bear Bikes program to grow, in 2011 it switched to more resourceful hands. Thanks to SGA, Carrie Ingolsby, and Cherry Street Cycles, the Bear Bikes program now provides many Mercer students with fun, eco-friendly means to commute and exercise.
